TO GIVE AUTHORIZATION OF REPRESENTATION TO
LOCAL 528 OF THE OPERATIVE PLASTERERS' AND CEMENT MASONS' INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION (THE UNION)
This authorization cancels any similar authority given to any other person or organization.
When you fill out an application to become a member of the Union, you are applying for a membership and you understand that the Union intends to apply to be certified as my exclusive bargaining agent and to represent me in collective bargaining with my employer, and you signature authorizes that activity on your behalf.
You may be asked to fill out a “Authorization Card” again, so the Union can represent you on behalf of an employer when the representation is challenged.

Union Recognition Card follow up
Members of Local 528,
In order to reinforce our bargaining position as a Union with our Signatory Contractors, we file for a “9A Election”.
In short, you have signed a card (union recognition card) that states you want the Union to represent you at your job.
We will file a 9A petition with the NLRB - (National Labor Relation Board).
In response to that, the DOL will send you a mailer with an “official ballot” (pic below) to vote your position to be represented by the union or not. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT please look for this mail and return it ASAP.
STEP ONE: Open Mail from the NLRB.
STEP TWO: Review Paperwork.
STEP THREE: Follow the instructions & Vote on Ballot and return in mail.
What does this achieve? In short, its like going from renting to buying a home. This will secure contractor’s in to a relationship that requires them to bargain before they withdrawal form the a collective bargaining agreement.
