Local 528 Building Fund
Welcome to the Building Fund page.
Mission Statement
For decades, Local 528 Cement Masons & Plasterers have been a part of the construction industry, and now we have the opportunity to be at the center of it. Our industry partners have often expressed the benefits of working with us on every level, from product creation, testing and application. With this in mind, Local 528 is committed to establishing a state-of-the-art apprenticeship training center that will serve as a hub of cement-based construction education, materials development, and safety training. This will enable us to serve the needs of our industry by putting a skilled workforce at the center of it.
Vision
Our vision is to create a premier training facility that not only educates the next generation of skilled workers, but becomes an incubator for innovation & collaboration. This structure would attract industry allies from a variety of construction-related industries. A campus atmosphere could provide a space for partnerships with material & safety vendors to product manufacturers. A larger more encompassing facility will meet the needs for our ever-growing union membership and its’ partners.
It all started when…
In 2019, we proposed allocating $0.25 to the Building Fund with a vision for a new Union Hall and Training Center housed in one location and the members supported that vision with a $0.20 allocation. A few years later, the membership added another $0.10 to accelerate the fund’s growth as our need for the facility became clearer.
Now, as other construction crafts are building their own new facilities, we are close to taking the first step by acquiring the land/location. The addition of scopes like Concrete 3D printing has attracted materials scientists, spec writers, and product producers who are seeking partnerships. We are looking into the viability of our proposed facility, which could include laboratories and offices to host these industry partners, positioning us at the forefront of our work scopes.
We have the opportunity to make Local 528 an essential part of the industry, ensuring high value and job security for our members. With our upcoming raise the members may want to consider another allocation to the Building Fund in June 2025 to help us build a new facility. With an allocation of over $4.00, it would not be unreasonable to put an additional allocation to that fund to bring this vision to life.
